28/9/2008 Wanborough 3 Lydiard 2

An understrength Wanborough Wasps team faced a strong Lydiard Youth B team at the weekend. This was an enthralling match of end-to-end football, with both teams matching scores goal for goal, to 2-2 by the end of the first half. The tension and enthusiastic support continued until the winner was scored for Wanborough by Luke G in the second half. The supportors' heart-rates and blood pressure only returned to normal well after the final whistle had been blown.
Goals for Wanborough from Taylor, Jacob & Luke G. Special mention to man-of-the match, Max for swapping his striker's boots for the keeper's gloves and playing a blinder!

  1. Well, what a second half performance!

I feel the team needed a real wake up both before the game and at half time and they responded in great fashion. It was a real battle against the odds but we managed to create a number of great chances with Luke and Taylor combining down our left-hand side to provide a string of great moves. Luke’s winning goal rounded off another impressive personal performance. Credit must also go to every player for the way we defended after the break. It is essential for all players, especially defenders, to be alert and aware of danger and be mindful of their positioning. We will continue to work on this along with attacking the ball both on the floor and in the air during training.

M.O.M. Max from both coaches and captain. Well done Max!
