U11, U12 & U13 Mini-tournament

On Saturday 6 June we held a mini 6-a-side tournament up at Liddington. There were teams from Simon's U11's Shaun's U13's and two teams from the U12's. The U13's eventually ran out winners with a 2-0 win against the U12B side in the final. There was some really good football played with some exiting matches. Big thanks to Paul Makin who marked the pitch and Phil Lester for time keeping. We will organise a similar event in a few weeks time. Lastly I would like to thank all the footballers who behaved and played brilliantly on the day.

Andre.

Greenmeadow mini-tournament

Saturday we took a small squad to play in a mini tournament organized by Greenmeadow, we made it to the final by winning two of our group games and drawing the third without conceding a goal. We ended up losing the final on penalties after dominating the game. All of the lads played very well on an extremely hot morning. Well done to those who took part.

3 May 2009 Wanborough V Highworth

The last match of the season for the wasps against Highworth would see Wanborough top the league if they won, take 2nd place if they lost, and force a play-off with Liddington if they managed to draw.

Both teams battled from the first kick of the game through to the final whistle.  A goal from Jacob thanks to a cross from Luke G put Wanboorugh ahead in the first half.  Hightworth equalised and despite more chances from both teams the match finished 1-1.

Liddington and Wanborough now face each other in a play-off for the league top spot.

29 March 2009 Coleview 4 - Wanborough 6

The return match between Coleview and Wanborough was a very exciting and equally nerve-wracking game to watch!  Coleview opened the scoring, but then 2 goals from Luke G, and goals from Jacob, Taylor & Charlie B. put Waborough 5-1 ahead at half-time.

Three goals from Coleview in the second half however proved that they were still a team ready to keep playing and fighting to the very end.  A second goal from Jacob sealed the match 6-4 in Wanborough's favour.

22/3/09 Wanborough 4 - Coleview 3

An open, end-to-end match saw Wanborough 3-1 up at half-time.  Coleview never gave up and fought back to 3-3 early in the second-half.  Both teams were determinedly looking for the winning goal, however, in a nail-biting climax to the match Wanborough managed to steal victory with a last-minute goal putting them 4-3 up at the final whistle.

15/03/09 Wanborough 1 v Old Town 0

An exciting open match between two determined sides was decided by a single goal by Jacob from a Luke G free kick.  Every one of the Wasps players excelled themselves with great displays of passing, tackling, grit & determination.  Special mentions to Cameron and Luke, the players of the match.

1/3/09 Wanborough 2 V Stratton 2

An exciting open match between Wanborough & Stratton ended all square at 2 all.  Goals were scored by Luke G and Jacob for Wanborough.  Both goalkeepers saw plenty of action.  Man of the Match for Wanborough was Stevie T.

22/2/09 Wasps 2 - Fairford Youth 1

An exciting, open match saw Wanborough ultimately triumph over current top-of-the-table Fairford Youth.  Wanborough went one-nil down in the first-half.  However, excellent passing play from the entire team, grit, determination and most importantly two goals from Taylor in the second meant that the Wasps ended the game with a great win.

Comment from Andy:

"Without doubt the boys turned in their very best performance of the season to register a much-deserved victory against top of the table Fairford. Fast flowing football again proved the way to succeed with attack after attack coming from both flanks. Our five-man midfield dominated the game from first to last whistle and with a little better luck could have scored more than the two goals from Taylor.

Excellent shape from the back four and another composed display from Connor meant most attacks from Fairford were snuffled out before quality distribution resulted in another raid from Luke M and Taylor. Well done to Jacob for his unselfish running up front and also to Jason who swapped to right back and proved excellent attacking support with his trademark overlaps.

Great performance from everybody. I hope you all enjoyed it."

15 Feb 2009 Highworth J 2 - Wasps 3

A 10-strong Highworth J team put up a strong, spirited performance against Wanborough this week in an exciting end-to-end match.  Despite some impressive individual skill from Wanborough and having a full squad against Highworth's 10 men, it was Highworth's team-work and passing game that helped them to open the scoring 7 minutes into the match.  Wanborough failed to take advantage of their extra outfield player and it was Highworth that looked like they were the more likely to score throughout the first-half.

Goals from Luke G. and Max in the second-half put Wanborough ahead. It was Highworth though that played as though they had an extra man on the field, thwarting Wanborough's attacks and often seeming to find space for their own. Luke's second goal sealed the match in Wanborough's favour. However Highworth kept fighting all the way to the end; putting away a consolation goal just before the final whistle.

Wanborough in the Snow 2009

Not football related as such; but fun none the less!

1/2/09 Greenmeadow 2 V Wanborough 1

Today's match saw Wanborough outplayed and outgunned by a disciplined Greenmeadow side.  Greenmeadow had several good chances in the first half, converting only one of them into an goal early into the game.
Wanborough managed to get into the match for a time in the second-half where a goal from Jacob brough the scores level.  There were some great passing moves from the team, however the truce was short-lived.  Another goal 7 minutes from the end sealed the match for Greenmeadow; as deserved win.
Final score Greenmeadow 2, Wanborough 1.

25 Jan 2009 Lydiard 0 - Wanborough 1

Lydiard 0 - Wanborough 1
A hard-fought match between 2nd & 3rd in the league Lydiard & Wanborough saw the teams locked head-to-head for most of the match.  The nail-biting first half ended without score.  Both sides had chances and good runs but without managing to convert their effort into a goal.  The deadlock was finally broken late in the 2nd half with the winning goal scored by Max C. for Wanborough.
Wanborough Man of the Match was Luke M & the Captain's Man of the Match was Ryan C.

18 January 2009 Wasps 5 Wroughton 1

Today's game was the first in a couple of months for the the lads, and we started a little bit slowly allowing Wroughton to score the first goal. The boys found their feet midway through the first half, we started getting the ball wide. Taylor evaded a couple of challenges, before a good low cross to set up the equalizer. We really went on from there, in a clinical ten minute spell we scored three more goals to run in 4-1 up at the break. When we keep the ball down and get it out wide to Tay and Luke M we look very dangerous. The second half was very well contested and Wroughton contributed to a very even game, Luke G scored a fantastic free kick to put the wasps 5-1 up. All the boys played very well; but a special mention for both Max and Cameron who played in new positions, the attitude and determination by both was second to none. well done boys, now lets keep that going.
